Inclusive Learning

Companies are built on complementing the expertise and wisdom of their staff. IPS sustainability champions across the group thrive on sharing best practices and ideas with each other on sustainability ventures to guide them as we embark on our net zero journey. The exchange of ideas is done through training, face-to-face and virtual meetings, and even WhatsApp group conversations to ensure a wholesome learning experience.

They champion leverage on virtual learning platforms including the AKF learning hub, UN global compact platforms and many other learning platforms to be able to build their knowledge and skills on an array of environmental stewardship topics. We also use world days to carry out themed campaigns to sensitize our staff.

“The skills of our staff are one of the key ingredients for the success of Net Zero journey; this we achieve by building the capacity of not only people who directly involved in driving Net zero agenda but everyone whose role impacts energy, water, tree growing, biodiversity and circular economy. We have done and still have a couple of training and awareness sessions lined up, we trust that an empowered environment champion is a way to go in terms of achieving Net Zero in the future,”

says Isaac Nyonje senior environment and social officer

Isaac further adds that they have completed training in waste management, circular economy, sustainable agriculture, net zero, ozone depleting substance, Greenhouse Gas emissions and refrigerant usage.
‘‘We have adopted a multi-sectoral capacity-building approach across the group, our weekly environmental committee meetings enable our staff to brainstorm on the various sustainable initiatives we can adopt to ensure we achieve our targets for water, energy, zero waste, tree growing and net zero,’’

Mary Mburu the general manager and sustainability lead at Choice Meats

Elizabeth Maina a sustainability champion of Frigoken limited mentioned that they have also provided thousands of the farmers in their value chain with up-to-date good agricultural practices, through extension services.
As champions continue with the engaging exchange learning program across the group, IPS aims at rolling out a robust and structured education program on environmental sustainability in our operations and beyond.
